The moment of truth today, and the cargo started on the button, first time. Hardly any smoke, and runs really well. Of course there's a snag in the form of no air pressure at the brakes, either on the foot or parking brake, but it turns out to be a missing air line at the back axle, which I took off to replace.
Will have to pay a visit to the scrapyard and get another, or get one made up. Either way I can't move the truck until it's replaced and I can get some air up.
